If you want to feel and look great then Pilates is for you!!!  At the studio we see a really wide range of age groups from 8yrs old to 85yrs old all enjoying the huge range of benefits Pilates can offer everyone.

10 reasons why you should try Pilates if you are over 60!!

  1. Pilates is a gentle form of exercise that is suitable for people who are looking to take care of themselves but maybe don’t have the energy to take part in rigorous exercise that would maybe leave the body and mind feeling exhausted. It will gently build up your energy levels giving you a sense of wellbeing.
  2. Pilates helps to build core strength and muscle tone, enabling any weak joints to more stable and less prone to injury. Helping with back pain and pelvic floor issues.
  3. Improving balance and co-ordination helping prevent falls and improve confidence allowing continued independence.
  4. Mat Pilates is a low impact form of Pilates so there is minimal stress to the joints and other parts of the body Most of the classes is done on the floor or can be adapted to a chair.
  5. Improving flexibility is just as beneficial to older people who are more likely to suffer from conditions like arthritis or osteoporosis and declining mobility.
  6. By stretching muscles that become tight from having a sedentary lifestyle Pilates will improve posture, how we look and feel , alleviating back, neck and shoulder pain resulting from sitting for long periods.
  7. Helping build stronger bones is another huge benefit of Pilates. Gently weight bearing encourages bone density helping minimise fractures and breaks.
  8. Pilates can be easily practised at home with simple exercises learnt in the class, even just 10minitues a day in between classes can have a huge advantage to health.
  9. Stress can play havoc with our health as can rushing around trying to keep up with our daily lives. In a Pilates class you will learn breathing techniques that not only relax you in the class but can also be used at home when most needed.
  10. Getting out and just being around other people can help us all feel more positive about ourselves and by joining a class you know you are with other people who all have the same goal as you “to improve their body and mind”.
